Chapter 1

Ah the Pod, his little mobile home….He did not live in a house, or apartment, they were now mostly demolished, or kept as museums.

His living space was small and compact, but for a good reason, it was highly mobile.

Time to have a look outside.

With all the data available to him, he of course simply knew what the weather was like, and the forecast, and could simply access the views from an almost infinite data streams of multiple views of where he was now, and anywhere else on and off world, or “Underworld “the new and exciting world under the oceans.

But back to today, Susan obliged by opening the viewing port.

It was good to see through his natural eyes, instead of his mind’s eye. There was still something refreshing about using his physical senses, and being tactile.

Otherwise why get out of “The Sack”. There were some that spent their entire lives in “The Sack “as it was possible to stay nourished and fit and healthy in there, and exist entirely through data feeds coming in, and going out, and having that “Matrix Like “existence. Only really having to leave the sack, to have medical procedures completed, and then returning to “The Sack”.

But mostly people preferred to continue to use their senses and interact physically with their surroundings, so at least for the present, this was how people lived.

But who knows where the future was heading…? Anyway what will be will be, and so far this was a nice balance.

The Pod interior wall changed from the sleeping colour texture,  to transparent, allowing a view from his high vantage point, in the “Pod Collective “located presently at Aberdeen Beach, Scotland, UK.

His pod was one of hundreds that were formed into a large arch, reaching up over 300 metres, and covering 300 by 20 metres of land, situated just behind the beach promenade.

Each pod was uniform in design characteristics, which allowed such structures to be formed. Families could choose to be together and have interconnecting pods. You were assigned a basic spec pod at the age of 14. Whether you chose to park up for the night, week , year etc with your immediate family, was a point for you and your family to come to an arrangement about. Family politics would never be easy, but this “PodLife “made most arrangements at least feasible.

His view was out to sea, over the beautiful smooth sands of Aberdeen Beach, located in the North East of Scotland. His family were pretty adventurous, so they were spread far and wide on and under the planet, and even off world, so there were no pods connected with him in this particular “Pod Collective”.
